Biography

Uways al-Qarani was a Yemeni ascetic who lived during the time of the Prophet ﷺ but never met him because he was devotedly caring for his mother.

The Prophet ﷺ informed his companions about Uways and told Umar ibn al-Khattab and Ali ibn Abi Talib to ask him to pray for their forgiveness if they ever met him. Umar eventually met him during his caliphate.

Uways is considered a symbol of extreme piety, humility, and the importance of honoring one’s parents. He later moved to Kufa and was martyred at the Battle of Siffin fighting alongside Ali.
