Urwa ibn al-Zubayr was the son of the companion Az-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam and Asma bint Abi Bakr. He was also the nephew of Aisha, the Mother of the Believers, from whom he gained much of his knowledge.
He was one of the famous ‘Seven Jurists of Medina’ who shaped the early development of Islamic law. Urwa is also considered the father of Maghazi (Prophetic military history), as he was one of the first to systematically record the life of the Prophet ﷺ.
