Tawus ibn Kaysan was a Persian-descended scholar from Yemen. He was one of the most brilliant students of Abdullah ibn Abbas, the master of Quranic interpretation.
Tawus was known for his fearlessness in speaking truth to power and his profound knowledge of the rituals of Hajj. He spent much of his life in Yemen but was a regular figure in the circles of knowledge in Mecca.
He performed Hajj forty times and was respected by all for his piety and mastery of Islamic law.
