Mujahid ibn Jabr was a freed slave of the Makhzum clan in Mecca. He became the most prominent student of Abdullah ibn Abbas in the field of Tafsir.
It is narrated that he reviewed the entire Quran with Ibn Abbas thirty times, stopping at every verse to ask about its meaning and context. Because of this, his interpretations are highly valued and frequently cited by later commentators like Al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir.
