Biography

Qatada ibn Di’ama was a blind polymath from Basra. Despite his lack of sight, he possessed a memory so powerful that it was often described as legendary. He was a master of Hadith, Arabic language, genealogy, and history.

He was a student of Anas ibn Malik and Al-Hasan al-Basri. Ahmad ibn Hanbal once said of him, “Qatada is the most learned in Basra; there was no one like him.” He played a crucial role in preserving the scholarly traditions of Iraq.
