Al-Hasan al-Basri (642–728) was one of the most influential Islamic theologians of the first century AH. Born in Medina but raised in Basra (Iraq), he became a leading scholar of his time. He was renowned for his eloquence, profound sermons, and ascetic lifestyle. Al-Hasan al-Basri met many Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, including Anas ibn Malik, and transmitted hadith from them.
