Uthman bin Affan

“ Narrated Abu Musa: The Prophet (ﷺ) entered a garden and ordered me to guard its gate. A man came and asked permission to enter. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Admit him and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise." Behold! It was Abu Bakr. Another man came and asked the permission to enter. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Admit him and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise." Behold! It was `Umar. Then another man came, asking the permission to enter. The Prophet (ﷺ) kept silent for a short while and then said, "Admit him and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise with a calamity which will befall him." Behold! It was `Uthman bin `Affan. `Asim, in another narration, said that the Prophet (ﷺ) was sitting in a place where there was water, and he was uncovering both his knees or his knee, and when `Uthman entered, he covered them (or it). “ Narrated 'Ubaidullah bin `Adi bin Al-Khiyar: Al-Miswar bin Makhrama and `Abdur-Rahman bin Al-Aswad bin 'Abu Yaghuth said (to me), "What forbids you to talk to `Uthman about his brother Al-Walid because people have talked much about him?" So I went to `Uthman and when he went out for prayer I said (to him), "I have something to say to you and it is a piece of advice for you." `Uthman said, "O man, from you." (`Umar said: I see that he said, "I seek Refuge with Allah from you.") So I left him and went to them. Then the messenger of `Uthman came and I went to him (i.e. `Uthman), `Uthman asked, "What is your advice?" I replied, "Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth, and revealed the Divine Book (i.e. Qur'an) to him; and you were amongst those who followed Allah and His Apostle, and you participated in the two migrations (to Ethiopia and to Medina) and enjoyed the company of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and saw his way. No doubt, the people are talking much about Al-Walid." `Uthman said, "Did you receive your knowledge directly from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)?" I said, "No, but his knowledge did reach me and it reached (even) to a virgin in her seclusion." `Uthman said, "And then Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth and I was amongst those who followed Allah and His Apostle and I believed in what ever he (i.e. the Prophet) was sent with, and participated in two migrations, as you have said, and I enjoyed the company of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and gave the pledge of allegiance him. By Allah! I never disobeyed him, nor did I cheat him till Allah took him unto Him. Then I treated Abu Bakr and then `Umar similarly and then I was made Caliph. So, don't I have rights similar to theirs?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Then what are these talks reaching me from you people? Now, concerning what you mentioned about the question of Al-Walid, Allah willing, I shall deal with him according to what is right." Then he called `Ali and ordered him to flog him, and `Ali flogged him (i.e. Al-Walid) eighty lashes. “ Narrated Ibn `Umar: During the lifetime of the Prophet (ﷺ) we considered Abu Bakr as peerless and then `Umar and then `Uthman (coming next to him in superiority) and then we used not to differentiate between the companions of the Prophet. “ Narrated `Uthman (the son of Muhib): An Egyptian who came and performed the Hajj to the Ka`ba saw some people sitting. He enquired, "Who are these people?" Somebody said, "They are the tribe of Quraish." He said, "Who is the old man sitting amongst them?" The people replied, "He is `Abdullah bin `Umar." He said, "O Ibn `Umar! I want to ask you about something; please tell me about it. Do you know that `Uthman fled away on the day (of the battle) of Uhud?" Ibn `Umar said, "Yes." The (Egyptian) man said, "Do you know that `Uthman was absent on the day (of the battle) of Badr and did not join it?" Ibn `Umar said, "Yes." The man said, "Do you know that he failed to attend the Ar Ridwan pledge and did not witness it (i.e. Hudaibiya pledge of allegiance)?" Ibn `Umar said, "Yes." The man said, "Allahu Akbar!" Ibn `Umar said, "Let me explain to you (all these three things). As for his flight on the day of Uhud, I testify that Allah has excused him and forgiven him; and as for his absence from the battle of Badr, it was due to the fact that the daughter of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was his wife and she was sick then. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to him, 'You will receive the same reward and share (of the booty) as anyone of those who participated in the battle of Badr (if you stay with her).' As for his absence from the Ar-Ridwan pledge of allegiance, had there been any person in Mecca more respectable than `Uthman (to be sent as a representative). Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) would have sent him instead of him. No doubt, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had sent him, and the incident of the Ar-Ridwan pledge of Allegiance happened after `Uthman had gone to Mecca. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) held out his right hand saying, 'This is `Uthman's hand.' He stroke his (other) hand with it saying, 'This (pledge of allegiance) is on the behalf of `Uthman.' Then Ibn `Umar said to the man, 'Bear (these) excuses in mind with you.'" Что касается его отсутствия при присяге Ридван, то если бы в Мекке был кто-то более уважаемый, чем Усман, Посланник Аллаха (ﷺ) послал бы его вместо Усмана. Посланник Аллаха (ﷺ) послал Усмана в Мекку, а присяга Ридван состоялась после того, как Усман ушёл. “ Narrated Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with him]: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was at Hira, him, Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman, 'Ali, Talhah and Az-Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them all), and the boulder (mount Hira) shook. So the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Be calm, for there is none upon you except a Prophet, or a Siddiq, or a martyr." “ Narrated Anas: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), Abu Bakr, 'Umar, and 'Uthman climbed Uhud (mountain) and it shook them, so the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Be firm O Uhud! For there is none upon you except a Prophet, a Siddiq, and two martyrs." Сообщается от Анаса: Посланник Аллаха (ﷺ), Абу Бакр, Умар и Усман поднялись на гору Ухуд, и она задрожала под ними. “ Narrated Talhah bin 'Ubaidullah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "For every Prophet there is a friend (Rafiq), and my friend" - meaning in Paradise - "is 'Uthman." “ Narrated Abu 'Abdur-Rahman As-Sulami: "When 'Uthman was besieged, he looked out over them from atop his house and said: 'I remind you by Allah. Do you know that when (mount) Hira shook, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Be firm O Hira! For there is none upon you except a Prophet, a Siddiq, and a martyr?"' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'I remind you by Allah! Do you know that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, about the army of distress (Al-'Usrah): "Who will spend something which shall be accepted (by Allah)?" And the people were struggling during difficult times, so I prepared that army?' They said: 'Yes.' Then he said: 'I remind you by Allah. Do you know that no one drank from the well of Rumah but have to pay for it, then I bought it and made it for the rich, the poor, and the wayfarer?' They said: 'O Allah! Yes!'" “ Narrated 'Abdur-Rahman bin Khabbab: "I witnessed the Prophet (ﷺ) while he was exhorting support for the 'army of distress.' 'Uthman bin 'Affan stood and said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I will take the responsibility of one-hundred camels, including their saddles and water-skins, in the path of Allah.' Then he [(ﷺ) again] urged support for the army. So 'Uthman [bin 'Affan] stood and said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I will take the responsibility of two-hundred camels, including their saddles and water-skins, in the path of Allah.' Then he [(ﷺ) again] urged support for the army. So 'Uthman bin 'Affan stood and said: '[O Messenger of Allah] I will take the responsibility of three-hundred camels, including their saddles and water-skins, in the path of Allah.' So I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) descend from the Minbar while he was saying: 'It does not matter what 'Uthman does after this, it does not matter what 'Uthman does after this." И я видел, как Посланник Аллаха (ﷺ) спустился с минбара, говоря: „Неважно, что сделает Усман после этого, неважно, что сделает Усман после этого"». ”

“ Narrated Abu Al-Ash'ath As-Sana'ani: "Some people were delivering Khutbah in Ash-Sham, and among them were Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ). So the last of them, a man called Murrah bin Ka'b, stood, and he said: 'If it were not for a Hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), I would not have stood (to address you). He (ﷺ) mentioned the tribulations, and that they would be coming soon. Then a man who was concealed by a garment passed by. So he said: "This one will be upon guidance that day." So I went towards him, and it was 'Uthman bin 'Affan. I turned, facing him, and I said: "This one?" He said: "Yes." “ Narrated 'Aishah: that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "O 'Uthman! Indeed Allah may give you a shirt, and if they wish that you take it off, do not take it off for them." “ Narrated Jabir: that the Prophet (ﷺ) was brought the body of a deceased man, to perform Salat for him, but he did not pray over him. It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! We have not seen you avoiding prayer over anyone before this?" He said: "He used to hate 'Uthman, so Allah hates him." “ Narrated 'Ali bin Abi Talib: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "May Allah have mercy upon Abu Bakr, he married me to his daughter, and he carried me to the land of Hijrah, and he freed Bilal with his wealth. May Allah have mercy upon 'Umar, he says the truth even if it is sour. The truth caused him to be left without a friend. May Allah have mercy upon 'Uthman, the angels are shy of him. May Allah have mercy upon 'Ali. O Allah! Place the truth with him wherever he turns." “ Narrated 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Abu Bakr is in Paradise, 'Umar is in Paradise, 'Uthman is in Paradise, 'Ali is in Paradise, Talhah is in Paradise, Az-Zubair is in Paradise, 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf is in Paradise, Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas is in Paradise, Sa'eed bin Zaid is in Paradise, and Abu 'Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah is in Paradise." “ Narrated Qais bin 'Abbad: I heard 'Ali, on the Day of the Camel, saying, "O Allah, I declare to You my innocence from the blood of 'Uthman. Indeed, my mind was clouded on the day 'Uthman was killed, and I disapproved of it. They came to me for allegiance, and I said, 'By Allah, I am too shy before Allah to pledge allegiance to a group who have killed a man.' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to him, 'Are you shy of whom the angels are shy?' And I am indeed shy before Allah to pledge allegiance when 'Uthman is dead, and his body has not yet been buried.' So they left, and when he was buried, the people returned and asked me for allegiance. I said, 'O Allah, I am apprehensive of what I will do.' Then resolve came to me, and I pledged allegiance. Indeed, they said, 'O Amir al-Mu'minin, it felt as if my heart was splitting.' I said, 'O Allah, take from me for 'Uthman until You are pleased.'" Они сказали: „О повелитель верующих!", и моё сердце словно раскололось. Я сказал: „О Аллах, взыщи с меня за Усмана, пока Ты не будешь доволен"». ”

“ Narrated Sahl bin Sa'd: A man asked the Prophet (ﷺ), "Is there lightning in Paradise?" He replied, "Yes, by the One in whose hand is my soul, 'Uthman will move from one house to another and the paradise will lightning for him." Сообщается от Сахля бин Саада: Один человек спросил Пророка (ﷺ): «Есть ли в Раю молния?» Он ответил: «Да, клянусь Тем, в Чьей руке моя душа! “ Narrated 'Aishah: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Call for me, or I wish one of my Companions was with me." She said, I said, "Abu Bakr?" He said, "No." I said, "'Umar?" He said, "No." I said, "Your cousin 'Ali?" He said, "No." I said, "So, 'Uthman?" He said, "Yes." She said, so 'Uthman came and he (the Prophet) said, "Get up." So the Prophet (ﷺ) began to whisper to 'Uthman and 'Uthman's color changed. She said, so when it was the Day of the House (when he was besieged), we said, "Won't you fight?" He said, "No, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ entrusted me with a matter and I will be patient with it." “ Narrated Ibn 'Umar: 'Uthman woke up one morning and narrated saying, "I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) in a dream last night, and he said, 'O 'Uthman, break your fast with us.' So 'Uthman woke up fasting and was martyred on that day." Сообщается от Ибн Умара: Однажды утром Усман проснулся и рассказал: «Я видел Пророка (ﷺ) во сне прошлой ночью, и он сказал: „О Усман, разговейся с нами".
